The standard is a five-foot alcove tub in porcelain over steel, a tiled surround in four-inch squares, and a tile or cultured-marble vanity top. If that's what you have, we've seen the exact layout many times over, and the quote is straightforward.

Old Torrance, around the original downtown grid, is the exception — that's earlier stock with earlier fixtures, and there's more cast iron in it.

The other thing that comes up a lot here is the previous refinish. Torrance houses have changed hands enough times that plenty of tubs have already been coated once, sometimes badly. A coating that's peeling was almost always sprayed over a surface that wasn't prepped. It has to come off before anything new goes on, so say so when you call and we'll price it properly rather than discovering it on the day.
